Taxonomy /Nomenclature

The Tree of Life

http://phylogeny.arizona.edu/tree/phylogeny.html

Most of the medical information on animals will be indexed under their Latin, taxonomic name. The Tree of Life website is an attractive, useful guide to taxonomic names. You may want to start at the listing of "Popular Groups" which provides access by common name. Click through it to find the name of the specific group of animals you are interested in, or to find the name of the broader class if your searches don't bring up anything specific.

Another tactic :

Another tactic is to search for the animal in a standard reference work such as an encyclopedia which will give the Latin name. An example would be Walker's Mammals of the World or the Encyclopedia Britannica.
